. . . he answers, “Let me see if I can explain without hurting or insulting you. When I first came up with the idea of a journey of touching, it was to acquaint Sharlene with being touched intimately because she had never been touched like that before. The idea also seem applicable to Angelisa since she had never been touched intimately either. When you asked about me leading you on a journey of touching, I was somewhat apprehensive without knowing which touching would be too much of a negative reminder of what you had been forced to experience.
“I guessed that maybe a journey of touching might work to let you enjoy pleasant touching experiences which weren’t intimate before being close to how you might have been abused. I also guessed that if you had a number of positive experiences slowly leading up to something which caused a negative reaction, the negative reaction might be muted or maybe even set aside. I had hoped, but didn’t really expect, that if the journey was gentle and positive enough, the negative experiences might be replaced by more positive experiences which would then enable you to go on to the next step.
“I was shocked when you wanted to go directly through the steps leading to your breasts being touched, but when you explained that your breasts hadn’t been much of a part of your abuse, I was surprised that was the case. Since that was the situation, it then made some sense to increase the touching of your breasts and hopefully to allow you to receive some pleasure as a result, before slowly touching you more towards how you were abused. I’m very concerned that if I start touching you near your pubic area where you have been abused, it could trigger a negative response in you and I want to avoid that if at all possible by touching you in what I hope you perceive as pleasant touches and very slowly build you up to where you’ll hopefully enjoy being touched near your pubic area.”
Rebeka pauses before she says, “George, your deep concern for me only encourages me to want to experience you touching me more intimately. I know I kind of messed up my journey of touching in asking you to touch my breasts earlier than you had planned, but that’s convinced me, along with seeing how Sharlene and Angelisa respond, that your idea of a journey of touching works, not just for the inexperienced, but also for the abused.
“More than a process or a method, your idea of the journey works because of you, your care, your concern, your interest in giving pleasure without caring whether you’re directly given pleasure in return. Because of that, I’m not just convinced, I know that I would enjoy you touching me intimately in my pubic area. I suppose it is possible that my body may initially react negatively to such touching, but the more time I spend with you, both from my observations and experiences, the smaller that possibility becomes.”
“Thank you for thinking that I somehow helped the risk of a negative reaction become smaller, but I still think that I would prefer to reduce the risk even more by slowly touching you towards full intimacy. And any time you feel a negative reaction building, you need to tell me so I can back off.”
“That’s not always possible.”
He quickly asks, “Why? Have you had some negative reactions and didn’t say anything?”
She assures him, “Calm down. There have been a couple of times when I felt a moment of panic, but it was over before I could say something because I recognized that it was your hands or your body which was touching me and I know I can totally trust you . . . .”
